Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Save-A-Pet!

There are currently no in-person volunteer orientations scheduled for the foreseeable future. We are only currently accepting new volunteers who would like to assist us with “fun”-raising, and assisting with our cats and kittens at PetSmart in Kildeer.

Our “fun”-raising volunteers help coordinate our special events, support our special programs, build strategic connections, and much more! These volunteers are under the direction of our development department.

Our PetSmart Volunteers must be able to commit to one day a month for a two or three-hour shift. Duties include light cleaning, and socializing/playing with the cats.

If you are interested in these specific activities, please email Kerry Kuczynski, Volunteer/Development Coordinator, at and a virtual volunteer orientation can be arranged.

Volunteers with a wide variety of backgrounds donate many hours of service helping our staff in various departments in supporting the needs of our organization. All volunteers report to and are under the supervision of designated staff members.

If you enjoy being around both people and animals, we’d love for you to join our team and share our passion for our unique no-kill mission. Your involvement can make a difference!

  • 18 years or older
  • Complete the volunteer application.
  • There is a $25 registration fee payable at the time of application or at the orientation.

Areas of Volunteering

Fun-Raising Warriors

These volunteers help support a wide variety of opportunities to raise money for our organization and our residents. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to be part of a special team that allows us to do some of the most amazing rescues and to provide some of our residents with the best vet care.

Canine Care & Feline Care Departments

Our Canine Care volunteers assist by walking our dogs in our designated dog walking area behind Save-A-Pet, and assisting staff with light cleaning.

Assisting with our Feline Care Department can range from socializing our cats to assisting with cat room cleaning in the mornings.

Some of our cats and kittens reside at both the PetSmart store in Kildeer. Volunteers provide daily care, light cleaning, and play time to our cats. They can even help prospective adopters if they choose!
