Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Save-A-Pet!

Save-A-Pet volunteers help tremendously with the below activities:

Our Feline Care volunteers support the Feline Care Staff with the care of the cats in the adoption center. This includes helping reduce the stress the cats in the adoption rooms by socializing with them and/or assisting with light cleaning.

Our Canine Care volunteers assist staff by walking the dogs in our dog walking area at the back of the adoption center, socializing with them in a fenced-in play area, and helping with light cleaning are some of the ways you can help  in the adoption center.

Our “fun”-raising volunteers help coordinate our special events, support our special programs, build strategic connections, and much more! These volunteers are under the direction of our development department.

How to Become a Volunteer

The first step to becoming a Save-A-Pet Volunteer is to complete a volunteer application. To access the application, Click HERE!

Once the application has been successfully submitted along with a $20 registration fee, the volunteer manager will conduct a brief phone interview with you to answer any questions you have and schedule your volunteer orientation. The 90-minute Volunteer Orientation is held on-site at Save-A-Pet the second Saturday of each month from 8:30am to 10:00am, and provides an overview of Save-A-Pet’s mission, volunteer opportunities available, and a tour of the facility.

Save-A-Pet is located at 31664 N. Fairfield Rd., Grayslake, IL 60030.

After the conclusion of your orientation, you will sign-up for your Training Session with a Lead Volunteer where you will learn the specifics of your volunteer role. Space in training sessions is limited to four or five participants, and training dates and times vary throughout the month. Once you’ve completed your training session, you will be able to sign-up for shifts in your approved area.

Please note: Volunteers must be 18 years or older to participate in our program. At this time, we are not accepting volunteers seeking to complete service hours.
