Save-A-Pet No-Kill Adoption Center presents:
The First Annual “Summer of Love” Campaign
June 22 - September 24, 2010

Please join Save-A-Pet Adoption Center in “spreading the love” this summer by helping us meet new people and raise much needed funds for the care of our residents. The Summer of Love campaign will be 100% web-based and e-mail based—ensuring there is no cost to anyone participating and helping to keep the campaign as “green” as possible.

As many of you know, 2010 has been "bittersweet" for Save-A-Pet. We’ve seen tragedies and miracles. Justice was lost. Stevi was found. Capone and Gucci were saved. Sadie saved a life on her own. Dumbledore found a forever home. Socrates and Charlize crossed the bridge. Sullivan found a foster home. The tragedies will never fully “stop.” All we can do is set the best example possible for how animals should be protected and treated, and be prepared to act when they are mistreated and abandoned. We also know that the miracles cannot happen UNLESS we ensure our existence to assist those who cannot help themselves. Since 1972, Save-A-Pet has rescued and cared for tens of thousands of animals, and has often been the "last line of defense."

Without the generosity we receive from our current donors—Save-A-Pet would not exist. It means more than words can express. From our Guardian Angels to supporters of our facility—our donors’ contributions allow us to practice our no-kill mission, and save more lives. Given our various expenses and the growing cost of doing business, we simply need to find more people to share in the challenge of supporting our life-saving and life-changing work.

The goals of the Summer of Love campaign are two-fold:
“Friendraising” and Fundraising.

Friendraising" simply means introducing Save-A-Pet's special work, success stories and financial needs to people you know. Doing so can help us connect with potential supporters. Hopefully some of the people you help us identify will choose to make a small, initial contribution, and begin their long-term commitment to Save-A-Pet.

Participation in this campaign can be accomplished from anywhere in the world. All you need is an Internet connection, and a desire to help us save lives and find loving homes for dogs and cats who cannot fight for themselves.

The fundraising component of Summer of Love will utilize FirstGiving.com—the same easy and secure donation service many of us used for the Petathlon. Please note that Petathlon pages cannot be used for this campaign. When you select the Summer of Love event on the Save-A-Pet First Giving Start Page, you'll be prompted to sign in and create a new page.

Funds can be pledged anytime from June 22nd through September 24th. Suggested goals are to share the Summer of Love campaign (Save-A-Pet’s work) with at least 30 new people, and to try and raise a minimum of $300 in that time frame. Obviously donations of any amount are greatly appreciated.

Participants in the "Summer of Love" campaign can choose to support the area of need closest to them and to their connection with Save-A-Pet—including but not limited to:

• Medical programs (vaccinations, preventative medications, etc.)
• Emergency care for severely injured animals
• Therapeutic programs (including special diets, supplements, etc.)
• Adoption programs for both "typical" and  long-term residents

“Stock language” is available below (just copy and paste it directly from the PDFs available below), and on our Facebook page (in the “notes” section) to help you describe the Summer of Love campaign on your First Giving page. Please feel free to use as much or as little of the prepared copy as you want--though we respectfully ask that you don't edit the copy and/or the statistics provided in each version.

Additionally, participants are also strongly encouraged to include their own "personal" sentiments as well—such as specific reasons why Save-A-Pet, specific residents, and animal welfare are so important to you.
